Indian Sesame Seeds New Winter Crop 2016 has started to arrive in market. Average daily arrivals in Unjha market is about 250MT and prices are around USD 1200/MT for raw white sesame seeds
The Indian Sesame Seeds production estimate for the New Winter Crop 2016-2017 is 6.75 lakhs MT which is 15% less compared to 2015-2016 estimate of 7.95MT (2015 2016 Crop Report Here) Source: DES
Following reasons can be attributed for lower production of Indian Sesame Seeds
- The prices of Indian Sesame Seeds were around USD 1100/MT which fetched lower prices for farmers so Indian farmers were not motivated to sow Sesame seeds this year
- Also during the harvest season 2016 of Indian Sesame Seeds the climatic conditions turned unfavorable which resulted lower yields
Looking at the above facts the prices of Indian Sesame Seeds of USD 1200/MT is not expected to go down further
The Sesame crop of Africa is in very good quantity compared to India and its prices are around USD 900/MT which is giving tough competition to Indian Sesame seeds in international markets
We conclude that this year future of Sesame will be good
